The consultation yesterday went extremely well.
We arrived at 2.30 and were shown to the waiting room, I nervously flicked through the pages of Hello magazine (which features pictures of Geri Halliwell and her new baby which are gorgeous) until we were called in by one of the midwives.
She went through our forms and all was well, she asked us questions and answered any we had, which to be honest weren't many as we have read all the books on this subject and pretty much know what to expect.
Hubby was told he had an amazing sperm count! But then we also knew this as somehow he managed to get me pregnant 3 times against all odds - we now call it crussells supersperm!
Then we were shown into a room to meet the consultant - Dr Andrew Riddle. We've met him before as he was the doctor on duty for both the ectopic pregnancies, so he has already seen bits of me that I haven't even seen!
I was alarmed at some of the statistics he gave me though. We were advised to implant only one embryo as there is a risk of triplets when you implant two. This risk carries a 40% chance that one of the triplets would be born with brain damage, which is alarmingly high. I think we will take his advice and go for only one, even though the success rates differ. It seems if we implant 2 embryos there is 45% chance of a pregnancy (35% chance this will result in twins and 5% in triplets) and if we go for one embryo we face a much loser 35% chance of a pregnancy (with a 2.5% chance of twins!).
The thought of twins seems great to me, terrifies the husband, but I'm also scared of the risks, so one it is.
Anyway, after chatting to the Dr for a while we were shown back to the midwife who informed me that we could start the next stage of this journey on day 21 of my cycle. This is next Wednesday!!!!!
So, we are back at the hospital on Monday to get the drugs and the needles, plus advice on how to inject myself. The fun starts here.....
