Well what an eventful couple of days it has been!
As you know I had heavy bleeding over the weekend, so on Monday morning I phoned the midwife to get an appointment at the Early Pregnancy Unit, well it seems that as I'm now over 16 weeks I no longer qualify as early pregnancy, so I was told to call the delivery suite and talk to them. They told me to come in right away and they would take a look at me.
We also had to take Chris's car into be serviced on Monday morning, and as the hospital is just a couple of miles from the hospital we thought it would be ideal to drop it off on the way, except his car wouldn't start! So we had to call out theRAC who told us they'd be 2 hours!!! when they called 20 minutes later to say it would be an extra hour on top I went mad - and told the lady that wasn't good enough as I was pregnant and bleeding and I had to get to the hospital! They arrived 10 minutes later :)
At the hospital I was taken to one of the delivery rooms where they asked a lot of questions, took some blood samples for iron testing and anti-d then sent me for a scan. At the scan we saw BB bouncing around on the screen so we knew everything was ok!
After the scan I went back up to the delivery suite where a doctor came and told me that I have low lying placenta which could end up being placenta previa if it doesn't move up. Basically at the moment this means that my placenta is low down in the womb and a small part of it is over the cervix, this is where the bleeding is coming from.
As the baby grows, and my womb grows bigger, the placenta should move up and therefore move off of the cervix, however in a small percentage of cases this doesn't happen - I won't know about this until I'm past 22-26 weeks, so for now I just have to keep an eye on the bleeding.
They decided to admit me into the maternity ward 'until the bleeding stops' which I joked with them could be a long time as I've been bleeding 34 days now! so they said well as long as the heavy bleeding stops or slows then I could go home.
So I stayed over night and they kept an eye on me, doing a couple of heartbeat scans and I was also given another anti-d injection as I'm a rhesus negative blood type.
So they finally let me out this evening, and I'm now back home resting. I'm going to take it easy over the next few days, and if I get any more heavy bleeding then I have to go back to the delivery suite right away.
I really wish the bleeding would stop and I could just enjoy being pregnant. Ahh well as long as BB stays ok we will deal with it!
